About the work
Steven Berkoff's The Trial adapts Franz Kafka's novel for the stage. Joseph K. is arrested without being told his crime and becomes trapped in an increasingly surreal legal system. The adaptation uses mime, heightened physical performance and ensemble playing to create the shifting world around him. Berkoff's version was first presented at London's Oval House in 1970.
