About the work
The White Liars is a one-act play by Peter Shaffer about the eccentric fortune teller Sophie, Baroness Lemberg, who is visited by two young men from the music business in a decaying English seaside resort. Their encounter turns on invented identities, self-images and the question of who is deceiving whom. The play premiered in 1967 under the title White Lies and was later revised and retitled The White Liars by Shaffer.
