About the work
A stage comedy about villagers who respond to the threatened closure of their branch railway by trying to buy and run the line themselves. Their plan has to satisfy the railway authorities while competing with a proposed bus service. Philip Goulding adapted the play from T. E. B. Clarke's screenplay for the Ealing comedy film.
