About the work

The Subject Was Roses follows Timmy Cleary as he returns home from military service to his parents, John and Nettie. His homecoming briefly promises a fresh start, but old tensions and disappointments soon re-emerge. A gift of roses becomes the focal point for a family struggling to reconcile affection, resentment and the distance that has grown between them.
