About the work

Harold Pinter's one-act play follows two couples after Stella tells her husband James that she spent a night with Bill, a young dress designer who lives with the older Harry. As James confronts Bill and Harry intervenes, competing versions of what happened leave the alleged encounter unresolved. The play uses shifting alliances, pauses and ambiguity to examine jealousy, intimacy and the instability of truth.
