About the work

The Black Rider: The Casting of the Magic Bullets is a dark musical fable about Wilhelm, an office clerk who wants to marry Kätchen but must first prove that he has a steady hand. The devilish Pegleg offers him magic bullets that never miss—for a deadly price. Robert Wilson, Tom Waits, and William S. Burroughs based the work on the German legend of Der Freischütz.
