About the work

In Aristophanes’ comedy, two Athenians leave their city in search of a better place to live. Among the birds they devise a plan to build a new city between earth and heaven, giving the birds control over the link between humans and the gods. The imagined utopia soon becomes a satire on power, government and human ambition.
