Edward Albee adapted Carson McCullers' novella into a play about Miss Amelia, her café, her eccentric cousin Lymon and the return of her former husband Marvin Macy. Their triangular relationship builds toward a brutal confrontation that permanently changes the café and its community. The stage adaptation premiered on Broadway in 1963.
