About the work
The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace is a large-scale choral work by Karl Jenkins. Commissioned by the Royal Armouries for the millennium and dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis, it combines the Christian Mass with the fifteenth-century tune L’homme armé and other sacred and secular texts. Its sequence moves from the threat and violence of war through mourning toward a final message of peace. The world premiere took place at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 25 April 2000.
