About the work

Tartuffe is a comedy by Molière about a hypocrite who gains influence over Orgon's household by presenting himself as deeply devout. While Orgon trusts him completely, the rest of the family tries to expose Tartuffe's manipulation and hypocrisy.

The play was first performed in 1664 and was later reworked by Molière. Its comedy centers on religious hypocrisy, gullibility and the abuse of power within a family.
