About the work

In Sterf de moord, four older men, each living with a physical impairment, wait for the boat that is to take them home from a holiday stay. Beneath their everyday conversation, a claustrophobic struggle for power develops as suspicion, memory and mutual dependence become increasingly destructive. J. Bernlef developed the play after a writing and improvisation project at the Instituut voor Theateronderzoek; its first public production premiered in 1973 with Toneelgroep Centrum.
