About the work
Maxim Gorky’s play “Summerfolk” (“Dacniki”) is set in a Russian summer colony shortly before the 1905 Revolution. A group of wealthy urban residents spends the summer there amid romantic entanglements, personal crises, and social debates, as the tensions of their time increasingly intrude upon their secluded lives.
