Simon Boccanegra is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi about the Genoese doge Simon Boccanegra. Against a background of political conflict, the story combines struggles for power with a family drama involving Simon's lost daughter Amelia and his opponent Jacopo Fiesco. The opera premiered in 1857 and was substantially revised in 1881 with changes to the libretto by Arrigo Boito.
