About the work
Berta and Pauline run a trade and rental business in second-hand clothes from the basement of an old villa. Their customers and visitors include people who deceive themselves and each other: a woman dreaming of respectability, a failed medical student, a former safecracker and his dubious old accomplice. The Low German comedy mixes social outsiders, pretence and self-deception with reflective humour.
