In 1920s Marseille, Marius works at the Bar de la Marine run by his father, César. He loves Fanny, but a longstanding desire for the sea and distant travel forces him to choose between staying with her and leaving Marseille. Marcel Pagnol’s 1929 play begins the Marseille trilogy continued by Fanny and César.
