About the work
Set during the Spanish Inquisition, the musical frames the story of Don Quixote as a play performed by the imprisoned Miguel de Cervantes and his fellow prisoners. It was adapted from Dale Wasserman's teleplay I, Don Quixote and premiered in 1965.
