About the work
London Assurance is Dion Boucicault's comedy of manners about the vain Sir Harcourt Courtly, his intended young bride Grace Harkaway and the spirited Lady Gay Spanker. Romantic schemes, mistaken assumptions and social pretensions collide when Sir Harcourt leaves London for the country. Boucicault's play premiered in 1841; Richard Bean later prepared a stage adaptation of the text.
