About the work

Les Contes d'Hoffmann is an opera by Jacques Offenbach with a libretto by Jules Barbier, based on stories by E.T.A. Hoffmann. The poet Hoffmann looks back on three doomed loves: Olympia, Antonia and Giulietta. The opera was left unfinished at Offenbach's death and premiered in Paris in 1881.
