About the work
A three-act comedy set in Brussels. Suzanne Beulemans, the daughter of a wealthy brewer, is expected to marry Séraphin Meulemeester, the son of a rival brewer, but grows closer to Albert Delpierre, a young Parisian intern at the family brewery. The play draws on family rivalry, bourgeois conventions and Brussels speech.
