In an imagined Poland, Prince Sigismund has been imprisoned since childhood because a prophecy foretells that he will become a tyrant. His father, King Basil, tests the prophecy by bringing him to court, then making him believe the experience was only a dream. The play explores freedom, fate, power and the uncertain boundary between dream and reality.
