The School for Wives is a five-act verse comedy by Molière, first performed in 1662. Arnolphe, terrified of being deceived in marriage, has raised Agnès in isolation in the hope of making her a compliant wife. When she falls in love with Horace, Arnolphe's scheme unravels and exposes the limits of his attempt to control her.
