Conductor Daniël Daréus is forced to slow down after health problems and returns to his home village. There he becomes involved with the local choir. His way of working unsettles old relationships and unspoken tensions: Gabriella tries to break free from an abusive marriage, the pastor sees his hold on the community weakening, and Daniël is confronted with the childhood bullying he thought he had left behind. When the choir qualifies for an international singing competition, making music together becomes decisive for both the group and Daniël.
