About the work

A prince, out of boredom and defiance, becomes engaged to the silent and awkward Iwona. Her presence destabilises the royal court and exposes the vanity, aggression and concealed desires of those around her. Witold Gombrowicz's grotesque drama sets individual resistance against the pressures of social form.
