Herr Puntila und sein Knecht Matti

A folk play by Bertolt Brecht about the Finnish landowner Puntila, who becomes jovial and generous when drunk but harsh and calculating when sober. His chauffeur Matti sees through the contradiction between Puntila’s personal friendliness and the social relationship between a ruling person and a serving person. The play was developed in Finland together with Hella Wuolijoki and premiered in 1948.
