About the work
Set in Britain during the Second World War, Goodnight Mister Tom follows William Beech, a withdrawn London evacuee sent to live in the countryside with the reclusive Tom Oakley. Their growing bond gives William security and confidence, but events in London and the war force both characters to confront loss and change.
David Wood adapted the play from Michelle Magorian's novel. The stage version premiered at Chichester Festival Theatre in 2011.
