About the work

George Dandin ou le Mari confondu is a 1668 comedy by Molière about the wealthy peasant George Dandin, who tries to rise socially through marriage to the aristocratic Angélique. When he discovers her infidelity, each attempt to expose her turns back on him. The play combines farcical mechanisms with sharp criticism of marriage, class and social humiliation.
