About the work

A German Requiem, op. 45, is a large-scale choral work by Johannes Brahms for soprano, baritone, mixed choir and orchestra. Brahms selected the German-language texts from Luther’s Bible; six movements were performed in Bremen in 1868, and the final version with seven movements in Leipzig in 1869.
