About the work

Ein deutsches Requiem, Op. 45, is a large-scale choral work by Johannes Brahms for soprano, baritone, mixed choir and orchestra. Brahms selected its German-language texts from the Lutheran Bible; six movements were performed in Bremen in 1868 and the definitive seven-movement version in Leipzig in 1869.
