Draußen vor der Tür
Play text: Wolfgang Borchert
About the work
The Man Outside is a post-war drama by Wolfgang Borchert about the German soldier Beckmann, who returns after years in captivity and finds no place for himself in society. His encounters expose questions of guilt, responsibility, alienation, and the repression of wartime experiences.
The work was first broadcast as a radio play in 1947 and later had its stage premiere in Hamburg that same year.
