Original work: Siegfried Lenz
Adaptation: Lukas Rosenhagen
“Deutschstunde” is Lukas Rosenhagen’s stage adaptation of Siegfried Lenz’s novel of the same name. From a juvenile detention institution, Siggi Jepsen looks back on his childhood under National Socialism and on the conflict between his duty-obsessed father, a village policeman, and the artist Max Ludwig Nansen, who has been banned from painting. The play explores obedience, conscience, responsibility and resistance to authoritarian notions of duty.
