About the work
Der Wildschütz is a comic opera in three acts by Albert Lortzing, who wrote both the music and the libretto. It is based on a comedy by August von Kotzebue and revolves around disguises, misunderstandings and social conventions in the milieu of a village schoolmaster and an aristocratic household. The opera premiered in Leipzig in 1842.
