Der Schein trügt is Thomas Bernhard’s two-character drama about the half-brothers Karl, a former circus performer, and Robert, a former actor. Following the death of Karl’s partner, the brothers continue their ritualized visits to each other, revealing grief, rivalry, and their mutual dependence.
