About the work
Carl Maria von Weber’s Romantic opera in three acts tells the story of Max, a huntsman’s apprentice facing a decisive trial shot. Afraid of failing, he allows himself to be persuaded by Kaspar to cast magic bullets, the last of which obeys the will of evil. The work combines folk legend, nature mysticism, and the struggle between superstition, guilt, and redemption.
