About the work

The Dragon is a three-act fairy-tale play by Russian dramatist Evgeny Schwartz. Written in 1943, the political parable follows Lancelot as he tries to free a town from a dragon whose inhabitants have grown accustomed to tyranny. An initial stage production was presented in Moscow in 1944 and was then banned.
