About the work
De verschrikkelijke moeder is a play by Alex van Warmerdam that brings together three dark family miniatures. In an absurd, musical world, figures including a butcher, an adulterous headmaster, a domineering mother and oppressed relatives become entangled in violent and comic relationships.
The play premiered with De Mexicaanse Hond in 2004 and was later staged by other companies.
