About the work
Angst essen Seele auf is a play based on Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s love story of the same name. It centres on Emmi, an older cleaning woman, and Ali, a considerably younger Moroccan worker, whose relationship encounters racism, rejection and social exclusion in their community. The play explores prejudice, loneliness and the social pressure placed on an unconventional partnership.
