About the work

A satirical comedy by Dario Fo centred on Queen Elizabeth I of England. With political intrigue and an attempted seizure of power threatening her position, Elizabeth awaits the arrival of her former lover, the Earl of Essex. Fo uses the historical figures as a starting point for grotesque humour and a satire on power, politics and public image.
