Macbeth: To Be Thus Is Nothing
About this production
Macbeth: To Be Thus Is Nothing is Dublin Shakespeare Society's autumn 2026 production, a modern retelling of Shakespeare's Macbeth set in the inner-city underworld of Dublin. The story centres on a run-down rave club known as the Vault, where Macbeth and his ambitious wife, Amelia, part of a dysfunctional family, commit murder to take control of the operation.
As guilt, paranoia and violence grow, their relationship falls apart. The society staged it at the Teachers' Club, 36 Parnell Square West, with a cast of nineteen. The production deals with manipulation, gender inequality, domestic conflict and emotional distress.
