Met Maak Plaats voor Mevrouw maakte Henriëtte te Wechel haar regiedebuut bij De Oefenschool. De komedie van Ray Cooney en John Chapman volgde op de uitbreiding van de vereniging met een eigen jeugdtoneelafdeling; een toenmalige krantenrecensie omschreef Te Wechels debuut als goed en talentvol.
