Bel Canto Oostzaan bracht in 1994 Gilbert en Sullivans operette H.M.S. Pinafore, in een Nederlandse vertaling van Gerard Knoppers. De komedie draait om standsverschil aan boord: een matroos houdt van de dochter van de kapitein, terwijl een onthulling over verwisselde afkomst de sociale verhoudingen op hun kop zet.
