Aberdeen Gilbert & Sullivan Society
About the group
Aberdeen Gilbert & Sullivan Society is an amateur operatic society in Aberdeen, Scotland, dedicated to staging the operettas of W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. It was founded in 1976 by two students and remained a University of Aberdeen student group until 2015, when membership opened to the wider community.
New members are welcome with no previous experience required. Everyone taking part in a production attends a short audition to be assigned a voice part, and those wanting principal roles also read a short dialogue extract. Rehearsals are held on Sunday evenings at the Aberdeen Academy of Dance, and productions are staged at the Tivoli theatre in Aberdeen.
