Princess Ida

Princess Ida is a three-act comic operetta by W. S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan. Prince Hilarion has been destined since childhood to marry Princess Ida, but Ida has withdrawn to Castle Adamant, where she runs a women's university from which men are excluded. Hilarion and his friends enter in disguise, setting up a satirical conflict over love, power and social roles. The operetta premiered at London's Savoy Theatre in 1884.
