Georges Feydeau’s one-act comedy Léonie est en avance ou le Mal joli, first performed in 1911, centres on Léonie, who appears to be going into labour a month early. Her husband Toudoux endures her demands as Léonie’s parents and a domineering midwife join the household turmoil, pushing the family crisis toward an absurd conclusion.
